CREATE-X Capstone Design

A special section of Capstone Design (ME 4723 - X, ECE 4723 - X + ECE 4723 - LX, CS 4883 - X + CS 4883 - XS, BMED 4883 - X + BMED 4883 X01, ISYE 4106) is dedicated to entrepreneurial projects. In this section, student teams comprised of ME, ECE, and CS students will design and build prototypes of their invention ideas and explore whether there is a market demand and value proposition for them.

We provide a nurturing environment, mentorship, and financial support for these entrepreneurial teams, including relevant lectures catering to the needs of a startup. The best team(s) from the section will automatically receive:

  • Direct admission to CREATE-X Startup Launch, with funding

  • Direct berth to the InVenture Prize Semi-Final Round (top 25 inventions out of 100+)

As in the traditional Capstone course, students will follow the design process, produce reports and presentations, and earn Capstone Design course credit towards their degree.

The course is led by Professor Craig Forest, who has taught Capstone Design for six years. He co-founded the Capstone Expo, InVenture Prize, Invention Studio, and is the CREATE-X Associate Director for MAKE programs. In 2013, he was named Engineer of the Year in Education for the state of Georgia.

What do the students say about the course?

"The best [part of CREATE-X Capstone] is learning everything that needs to be known to have a successful startup."

"The freedom to explore any idea with a need in any possible way was certainly what drew me to this course, and it did not disappoint."

"It pushed us beyond our limits and out of our comfort zone, which was really beneficial."
